In order for this calculation to work, you want it to be accurate without going overboard. If you are cooking mashed potatoes and you use 7 potatoes, a cup of milk and 1 stick of butter, how would you calculate that out?

The milk is easy. There are 16 cups in a gallon. That comes out to 0. Potatoes , we buy those by the five-pound bag.
